Fifteen for 15: Extraordinary in Every Way.

Well, we’ve made it.

279 days after we said we had a challenge to face (in the inaugural KWnetwork Select on Boxing Day last year), we have done so.

But, we have a long way to go with this.

As we stated, in the DST Guide last week: today we will unveil the first five of fifteen initiatives we call, “Fifteen for 15” that will guide us in a year which is a significant anniversary for this site, and for the KW Network as a whole.

The next five of these initiatives will be revealed exclusively over social media, between October 1 and Boxing Day, while the final five initiatives will be revealed back here at Kuttsywood’s Couch, in the Boxing Day KWNetwork Select.

Those final five initiatives revealed on Boxing Day include some very significant ideas I want to work toward in the long haul.

Let us begin now, with initiative number 1.

15for15: #1. We’re turning fifteen: what did you expect?

On Sunday, January 1, 2023, this site will turn fifteen: let’s now look back, at how we marked our fifth birthday, what seems to be like a eon ago.

“Everything has new beginnings. Five years ago on January 1 2008, this site began. Today, 80 posts, 16,000 views later, on the 29th of December 2012, this site will enjoy a new beginning to kick off our 5th birthday celebrations which will stretch throughout 2013. This "new beginning" is evidenced by the major redo of how this site looks, and feels. This new beginning is looking forward to a era where television in Brisbane is digital-only: an era which is only 150 days away.
For starters, there is a new logo, along with a fresher, wider layout for today's computers. There is also a new countup (opposed to countdown) ticker, reminding viewers of how many days have elapsed since Local Edition ended, that is designed as a little piece of Kuttsy's Pitch, that is permanent, until Seven acts, especially as we exit the 20th year of struggle for 7 in Brisbane, and enter a brand new year, with a new news director soon to be at the helm, and many rumours on what 7 is thinking of doing with their news and current affairs output in 2013.”
excerpt from "Five Years On: A preview of Kuttsywood's Couch in 2013",  29/12/12.

I think we still have the logo we used then:
(looks very dated doesn't it?)

The KWNetwork Select on Boxing Day this year: will not just announce the year to come, but will also symbolically celebrate the 10th birthday of the “LE Clock”, that was launched in December 2012 (as a parting reminder of “20 Years of Hell: at Half Past Five": symbolic in it's own right, as the first post for this site to run with still photographs embedded in directly through Blogger (a grainy screenshot of Rick Burnett) and a logo).

In addition, the first tranche of 15th anniversary merchandise, will be available after this post has been uploaded: i.e. stay tuned to our Twitter accounts.
Now, here's a look at what Kuttsywood's Couch will look like as we enter our fifteenth year.

The two highlights of this logo, are:
1. This style, is part of a completely new standard look for the KWnetwork being that is being rolled out progressively:
2. We harken back to our roots, with the addition of the number fifteen in Roman numerals: a tribute to the fact that next year marks ten years since Kuttsy's Pitch switched to Roman numerals for it's numbering.
Incidentally, we hang "The Team For The Twenties" down the bottom, for simplicity and clarity across all our presences.

That 80 posts/16k views in five years in 2013, incidentally: has become over 150 posts: the 150th milestone being achieved with the third night of Content Survey Live in August 2022: “A Mediocre Way To Mark 150 Posts”, and the site over the last fifteen years, having approximately over 111,000 views.

There is good reason however, why we didn’t go back to the Extra celebration in what would have been it’s 30th year on air.

15for15 #2: Lost. Extra.

Back in Feburary, we marked the thirtieth anniversary of the Brisbane Extra premiere, with Lexicon News 2’s fourth night being fittingly dedicated to the milestone. Veritas on KW, also marked it with a tweet, that introduced us to two words, that are about to make a hell of a lot of sense.

The site, that brought to you Lost TVQ in 2014, will be going on a new adventure in 2023: one that I hopefully won’t be maintaining alone. That adventure, is none other than the launch of our fourth social media brand… with ambitions to become our first cross-platform social media brand (that is, not being exclusive to one platform (i.e. not being like Lost TVQ being exclusive to Facebook, and OneQueensland/Veritas on KW being exclusive to Twitter).

That brand, will be known as Lost Extra.
However, we can only confirm one thing at this time: that it will have at least a Facebook presence: and in light of the uphill road this adventure will take us on, it is only fitting to mention this now.

15for15 #3: Building new partnerships:

Lost Extra, as a vision is designed to be the ends to a means. With the announcement, of Lost Extra today: our single handed issue with Nine concerning the 60th birthday of QTQ in August 2019 being little more than a footnote will end (however the clock will remain on this site for the foreseeable future), and we intend to put out our hand, to bring Nine onboard as a partner for this project to be successful, because of one thing that Nine has, and I don’t: the Brisbane Extra archive. Lost Extra’s vision is to make this vast archive (nearly 5000 episodes, and 40,000 stories stretching from 1992 to 2009) accessible to all, and most critically bring the surviving alumni along for the journey.

Nine, it is time to make amends with us: and work together to bring the Lost Extra vision to life, perhaps we could talk about what the Lost Extra vision could ultimately be over a barbecue cooked by Phippsy?

This idea about partnerships, much like what Nine should be making with Lost Extra: is something I am willing to explore, especially as we are intending to do a strategic transformation in the next two years or so that sets us up for significant opportunities down the road (more will be mentioned of this, on Boxing Day in the KWNetwork Select). A partnership with Kuttsywood’s Couch and the KWnetwork social media umbrella brings a world of local knowledge, (after all, the Team For The Twenties knows Queensland) as well as having a experienced hand at the wheel.

To make sure any partnerships have the best chance of success, we are now undergoing “Phase 2” of our social media evolution whose first phase was forged with the Veritas on KW/One Queensland launches in 2021, and will likely see a “Phase 3” with the Lost Extra launch.

15for15 #4: Social Media Evolution: Phase 2.

Our social media evolution’s second phase is all about enriching our existing presences that are currently underutilized, and launching a new presence, that sees us re-entering shortform video for the first time in a decade.

The presences that are currently underutilized, are our site-specific Facebook presence and our Instagram presence. This, is of course not referring to the highly successful “Lost TVQ” on Facebook, which needs very little tweaks, to it’s successful formula.

I intend to take both underutilized presences and bring them into the 2020’s, rebuilding them into something akin to the “Veritas on KW” model on Twitter: with steady growth in follower numbers and interaction.

In addition, we are undergoing significant work to all our existing Twitter presences under the hood as we speak, to diverge them away completely from the look that was designed as a slight evolution, of pre-2020 iconography, when it was engineered in the leadup to the Veritas on KW launch in early 2021. It is the next step in delivering all three as standalone presences.

Traditionally, this has been usually tied in with site changes here, where both socials and website get updated on the same day (within minutes of a post announcing the changes). However, with the increase of our Twitter presences in the last two years, such a concept of a flashcut for Twitter is now no longer feasible: however, we have a way to get around this issue.

It's a process I call KWNetwork’s “Twitter Evolution And Augmentation project”: or T.E.A.A project for short. The first results of the T.E.A.A. project, will be seen over at One Queensland closer to month’s end, but we already have some early imagery from the early part of T.E.A.A. works, which I hope will be finished entirely, by early February next year. In addition, parts of the T.E.A.A styling, will also be part of the initial look for Lost Extra.

Early imagery: A new hue for our foundation Twitter account (which itself will be turning fifteen in 2024), set to adopt it's new colour by the end of 2022, in one of two variations (one borderless: for use with white backgrounds, and this one seen here: with a white border for use on coloured imagery).

Early imagery: our new T.E.A.A. 350x250 pixel box, in One Queensland format (without logo and background) and Veritas on KW format (with current short logo, set to be redesigned later this year, specifically to work better with T.E.A.A. and a background)

Early imagery: our new T.E.A.A 350x250 pixel poll promo box (bubble is shaped like a speech balloon), in both Veritas on KW format and One Queensland format (both logo-less, and can be either backgroundless (like here) or utilize a background.

Early imagery: our new T.E.A.A. 500x400 pixel promo tile (bubble is designed to have both text and images), in both LYBASkw format (revealing, that Rob Readings (who passed away earlier this year) will join Billy J Smith and Doug Murray with memorial tips on Melbourne Cup day races, with the Readings memorial tip being Gold Coast-specific), and in One Queensland format (designed to market a upcoming post on Kuttsywood's Couch, with the image window left deliberately blank)

As well: the new presence, we will be launching shortly with a mixture of content, but has been delayed in light of recent events. KWnetwork on TikTok is our grand return to shortform video, after a decade’s absence. We intend to entertain. And, now let us come forward for the last announcement being made today.

15for15 #5: One Queensland’s Youth Enrolment Drive.

In the last week in October this year, as a first: a follow up from the effort done in the days before the rolls closed prior to the Australian federal election, we will be encouraging the youth of Queensland to enrol to vote: because I personally believe that the promise of Queensland in the present, lies not in the eyes of politicians or partisan politics: but in it's future.

On October 29, it will be two years until the next Queensland state election, and around eighteen months until the Queensland LGA elections. I believe, if we can start pushing today towards encouraging more young Queenslanders to enrol to vote, it can radically change our politicians opinion on many subjects. The enrolment goal I want to see by 31/12/2023: should be that Queensland’s electoral enrolment rate should be above 97%, regardless of what impacts are caused by the long-term trends of interstate migration to Queensland: and this growth has to come from the generation that will likely live with the decision to not consult widely concerning the 2032 Olympic bid in 2019/2020: that is, before the bid book was sent to the IOC for the rubber stamp.

The lack of widespread consultation concerning the Olympics should be the seed for a teal movement in Queensland that targets incumbent state members, councillors and mayors that have outright supported keeping the 2032 Olympics out of the hands of the Queensland public at every single opportunity.

In addition, 2028, Queensland's Year of Flight, will be released on this site on October 29, just after 6pm (not our traditional post-midnight drop for most pre-planned/prepared pieces on this site. It is designed in purpose to not name leaders in the future vision (as well this piece will be describing ways to improve our tourism marketing, our strategy for our airports: just as a big new door to Australia approaches, not in Queensland but in Sydney's outer west: alongside the original aim to be guidance for the three key centennials of 2028: all to do with aviation), as a encouragement to readers to go enrol, and help shape Queensland for the better: as a strong crossbench in 2024 (especially, as the current QLD crossbench has three members in the SE corner: two Greens, one independent, opposed to the four from outside the SE corner (three KAP, and one One Nation) could potentially see consultation with the public concerning the 2032 Olympics as a pretty huge negotiation chip concerning financial supply in a hung parliament.

As well, such a crossbench may be open to significant reform to the Queensland parliamentary press gallery, as well as significant reforms to donations and gifts (with a possible push to list miners as property developers, as well as potentially excluding the media from donating and gifting to all Queensland politicians from the state level downward), even potentially barring political parties from having youth wings on state tertiary campuses that were established by acts of parliament, unless they commit to serious vetting of members for extremist beliefs.

The fact that our politicians on both the government and opposition benches in Queensland today are more adept in saying yes, instead of saying no, needs to be made paramount by any potential Olympic teal candidate at any opportunity. Because, some of the greatest opportunities this state has had in the late 20th century and early 21st century have come not from saying yes: but us or others saying no. Expo 88 came to Queensland because the rest of Australia said no to hosting. Today’s South Bank would have never existed if people didn’t say no to the initial overdevelopment planned for the World Expo 88 site.

The power of just saying no, is quite often having far more ramifications than a constant attitude where yes is always the answer.

One Queensland, is a firm believer that there is a place in political discourse for the answer “no”, because it wields so much power: the failure to use the word “no” by the Queensland opposition concerning the Olympics (instead, hoping to jump on the Olympics gravy train at any opportunity) turned me off in 2019, and is still turning me off in 2022. I still visibly remember, the then QLD opposition leader jumping onboard the Olympics gravy train just before the 2019 EKKA… only for Agforce two days later to publish a open letter asking for a fair go for regional Queensland (mind you, the coincidence is quite shocking) which the QLD LNP just simply wrote off.

The three beliefs we stand for the most at One Queensland, are our backbone.
-The promise of Queensland (how Queensland is sold to us, to domestic tourists/immigrants and to the wider world in general.)
-The present of Queensland (what affects us now, and in the short term, One Queensland defines "short term" as a electoral cycle, which in Queensland is a four year cycle defined by a fixed election date: watch others talk up "short-term" solutions, and not actually define what the "short term" is.)
And, most importantly: -The future of Queensland. (the people and places, for whose decisions we make today, will ultimately effect.)

And, on October 29, One Queensland will rededicate itself towards these beliefs, in addition to our non-partisan, centrist vision we have shared since last June.

So, this is the end of the line: for the first five of fifteen initiatives we have planned for our fifteenth birthday.

A reminder, to stay tuned to social media for updates on the second five, and to come on home here on Boxing Day for the culmination of this task.

A shortlist, of our first five are below:
1. It's our 15th birthday.
2. Lost Extra is coming.
3. Partnerships? We are open to them.
4. Social media overhaul.
And, finally 5. One Queensland's Youth Enrolment Drive (with a confirmation of a significant overhaul of One Queensland at month's end).

And, as a final side note: we are now giving you dates for our social media overhaul, where T.E.A.A tiles will begin to be utilized alongside other changes.

-October 24: One Queensland gets it's new T.E.A.A. look, and it's new Twitter iconography (based off the new Kuttsywood's Couch look)
-October 30: LYBASkw's first taste of it's new look:
-Late November-Early December: Full move of LYBASkw to it's new T.E.A.A. look, and brand new Twitter iconography (based off the new Kuttsywood's Couch look), as well as the structural changes to Kuttsywood's Couch on Facebook.
Boxing Day: Announcement on future plans for Veritas on KW content during the KWnetwork Select amongst other things.
(Tentatively) January 15, 2023: Full move of Veritas on KW to it's new T.E.A.A. look, and brand new Twitter iconography (based off the new Kuttsywood's Couch look).

We hope you have enjoyed this announcement, and we hope to have more good news to share in the weeks and months to come.
