Lexicon News Goes Fourth: Part 5: Aloha 'Oe... or is it Good-bye-ee!

"Farewell Lexicon News..." (breaks ukulele), is that really the way to go for us?
Not said by Aunty Jack to Thin Arthur.

Welcome to the final night of the final edition of Lexicon News. Last night was a editing minefield, with holes all over the shop for our penultimate night.

Tonight, we are bringing out the Scotts three sneezers, the Kleenex and the Andrex all rolled up into one.

Now onto the ground rules for one last damn time (because, it's the final time we'll ever read these out, it deserved some cursing.)

The Ground Rules:

The ground rules, for the Lexicon News event, are taken from a promo, in 1987: that compared Seven's second attempt at 1hr news in Brisbane, with Nine's 1/2hr product that became dominant at the exact same time.
As it described:
"If you are watching a half-hour news, take out the weather, sport, opening music, hello's and goodbyes and the commercials, and you could only get about 12 minutes of real news each night."

Thus the ground rules for the Lexicon News challenge are for five nights:
-Time the length of the bulletin, from the moment the first story intro begins at 6, to the time the throw to sport begins, on both bulletins.
-Write down every story on the 1hr version, and compare with the half hour version to see how much content is removed.
-Subtract the BNE timing from the regional timing to get the amount of time lost to regional QLD viewers each night by simply trimming the BTQ news bulletin.
-Ultimately: add up all the figures, and come up with a final set of numbers at the end of the week.

In additionwe will be tracking how many coverups of live cross timings (usually seen as giant "LIVE" graphics superimposed) are made by Seven on the 10 minute edit during this period.

Tonight's tale...

Aloha 'Oe... or is it Good-bye-ee! (Whichever way you slice it: it's the end and we know it).

Stuff that aired in the regional QLD cut, is underlined.

SEGMENT 1: Iranian womens team at Womens Asian Cup facing flak for a salute, Iran war, live cross central Israel, live cross Tel Aviv, a Canberra angle on the US sinking of a Iranian warship, live cross Canberra (about a Chinese near miss with a Australian helicopter in international waters), Hugh Whitfield explainer, results of a autopsy for a Canadian tourist attacked by dingoes on K'Gari, Daintree flooding, live cross from the Daintree.

Segment 1 length in Brisbane: 17 minutes, 15 seconds.

SEGMENT 2: Possible Burpengary murder, update on Jacek McLaurin (Family of League, is running a appeal, link is here), SEQ drug bust, Jackie O breaks her silence.

Segment 2 length in Brisbane: 3 minutes even.

SEGMENT 3: J.W. Tough finally sentenced in QLD for chase a decade ago, petition for parole prevention for notable murderer, online safety crackdown, Britney Spears DUI, James Packer engaged again.

Segment 3 length in Brisbane: 3 minutes, 35 seconds

SEGMENT 4: Business report, more flights back from the Middle East, Moreton Bay council loses court case concerning homeless, RSLQ Art Union draw, possum magic outside a Melbourne night club.

Segment 4 length in Brisbane: 4 minutes, 10 seconds.

Overall pre-sport length in Brisbane:  28 minutes even.
Overall edit for regional Queensland viewers: 9 minutes, 11 seconds
Overall content lexiconed tonight by Seven from the Brisbane 6pm news for regional viewers: 17 minutes, 49 seconds.
The total amount of lexiconed content this week by Seven: 97 minutes, 42 seconds.

The war on keeping content out of regional Queenslanders eyes, has again had a upswing. This year, the amount of lexiconed content by Seven... is five minutes, 42 seconds higher than in 2023. Overall, Seven has been keeping regional Queenslanders this year, quiet on political matters, on rising petrol prices, parts of a evolving conflict in the Middle East, just to name a few. And, it's another case of content survey preserving history for the world to witness.

And, by the way Seven: seeing as it's the last time for Lexicon News: I thought it'd be wise to break the fourth wall: we know what you did in 2021: sucked up to the QLD government... to get a family member of a former long term Seven employee across the Queensland border, not long after Brisbane won the tainted challis that was the 2032 Olympic Games, without disclosure of the Seven connection to that story you produced concerning said family member, once.

Seven: you made your Bedwell, now lie in it, as the SCA razor gang inevitably arrives at Seven sooner rather than later to gut a metropolitan television outlet, like they did to numerous regional outlets over the last quarter of a century, especially as Seven's Brisbane ratings concerning their news... have outright collapsed since Sharyn Ghidella was sacked in 2024, to the point people can compare local overnight shares between 6pm and midnight on some nights... with those of the days Frank Warrick and Simone Semmens were up against Bruce Paige and Robin Parkin.

Well, that's it for the final night of the last time for Lexicon News.
This farewell is one we were planning for last year, and had it pencilled in as far back as December 2022 when Lexicon News The Third was announced... but we fittingly rethought our plans for length that was announced in late 2024. Lexicon News, much like Blackadder winds up with four series... and a hope that the Armaguard truck doesn't come to our door to do a one-off special like the Blackadder team did for the Millennium Dome.

But it doesn't mean this week is over. Tomorrow night, Content Survey Live's oneshot from Hawaii on Super Bowl Sunday will be posted ready to go: it's fitting that Lexicon News began as part of Content Survey Live second year, and ends with a peep into the American adventure kicking off next month.
See you again, tomorrow night.

And as they say at Drayton Manor, when they want you to get in the car and go home...

Or, what they should have had when 4KQ converted to sport...

Or, just screw it: and get UBU.

Thanks, for the memories, Lexicon News.
