Welcome to finals season...
The stage is set for a week full of finals action, kicking off with Melbourne and Adelaide going at it one more time this season, to face Perth on Thursday night. This is the first part of the Qualifying Final for Content Survey Live for 2025.
Now for the ground rules.
Now for the ground rules.
Our focus, in Content Survey Live will be monitoring Ten’s five capital city news services (a benefit of technological change, now allowing us to watch interstate bulletins on delay), using the same criteria we used in the “Great Local News Study” from Kuttsy's Pitch XI in August, 2019.
-Locally sourced stories: that is stories reported by local journos. Really big local market stories with national impacts, also fit here. Voiced over local stories are counted separately.
-Live crosses: stuff that is used to embellish a story.
-(NEW in 2025) Local overnight news: Handled via a system we call collectively, the “Ray Robinson Number”: 1pt for V/O’d overnight news, 2pts for a full story, the total is reported at each survey’s end.
-Weather is not counted.
-Sport is not counted if it’s done by obviously freelance journos, or voiced over pieces: you gotta have dedicated reporters there, with their mug on air reporting a sports story for it to count.
-(NEW in 2025) The “Hometown Rule” now applies to both Monday and Thursday night in the regular season as well as in the three Four Quarter Blitz finals (where the highest ranked participant goes first) outside of the Grand Final.
- (NEW in 2025) No 2nd survey (i.e. Tuesday/Friday) can be posted until 12hrs have elapsed after the live survey (Monday/Thursday) in the main season and the three Four Quarter Blitz finals outside the Grand Final. It can be worked on however, and scheduled.
We begin with a live cross concerning some impending heavy weather for Adelaide, followed by a full story on a overnight Devon Park stabbing (two points for the Ray Robinson Number), the announcement of AC-DC set to be the marquee act of the Adelaide 500 this year, Lake Eyre flooding and the calls for a return of a punt to keep the Birdsville Track open, and the sentencing of a Hackham teenager over a car accident two years ago.
We also get three live crosses outside the weather being brought forward: Whyalla (concerning steelworks issues and the airport reopening), Childers (for the Palace Backpackers memorial) and a in-newsroom cross concerning a potential price shock from the Gulf.
Three voiced over pieces tonight, a Myponga car accident, a Sturt Hwy near miss near Renmark and pet dumping at Marleston.
Sport, is what you'd expect from Adelaide on a Monday night.
Overall, a jampacked product, with the potential to play on one more time this week...
The scores.
Four local stories.
Four live crosses (the weather leading into a near story at bulletins start does count as one live cross)
Three voiced over pieces.
Sport, is to be as expected by Adelaide at this point.
A Ray Robinson Number of 2.
And, now: the only number that matters for Adelaide tonight... and whether it gets into Thursday's prelim...
Adelaide's score: 6.55/10.
Adelaide now awaits Melbourne's results tomorrow, to see whether they or their old foe has one more throw of the dice on Thursday night.
Well, that's it for the first part of the Four Quarter Blitz.
Join us again tomorrow, for the second half of the Qualifying Final where, Melbourne's season is firmly on the line.
