Content Survey Live: Yesterday's Hero: Grand Final: Game 1, Part 2

Halftime has arrived for Game 1...

Welcome, to the 2025 Grand Final for Content Survey Live.

Brisbane has already set it's mark in the first game of this GF (scoring 7/10) , now it's time for Melbourne to join the fray for this first game.

This year's grand final, is a best of five game series, where the first city to win three games will be crowned the Australian champion of this game for 2025, and will go on in 2026 to face the winner of Content Survey Live U.S.A. (happening next year) in the first ever world championship in content survey.

Now, let's go over the ground rules.

Our focus, in Content Survey Live will be monitoring Ten’s five capital city news services (a benefit of technological change, now allowing us to watch interstate bulletins on delay), using the same criteria we used in the “Great Local News Study” from Kuttsy's Pitch XI in August, 2019.

-Locally sourced stories: that is stories reported by local journos. Really big local market stories with national impacts, also fit here. Voiced over local stories are counted separately.

-Live crosses: stuff that is used to embellish a story.

-(NEW in 2025) Local overnight news: Handled via a system we call collectively, the “Ray Robinson Number”: 1pt for V/O’d overnight news, 2pts for a full story, the total is reported at each survey’s end.

-Weather is not counted.

-Sport is not counted if it’s done by obviously freelance journos, or voiced over pieces: you gotta have dedicated reporters there, with their mug on air reporting a sports story for it to count.

The Hometown Rule for the Grand Final, is as follows.

Brisbane: Game 1, Game 3, Game 5 (if required)
Melbourne: Game 2, Game 4 (if required)

And, now: a preview piece for Melbourne... as it enters the first night of the Grand Final...

Melbourne. The road to the Grand Final for Melbourne this year was one where the city started out on the back foot, despite only winning one fixture in 2025’s regular season: to outright storm home through the Four Quarter Blitz, to come into this event, with the potential to cause a storm in the proverbial teacup as was learned last week by Adelaide and Perth, who had both significant advantages nullified by a Melbourne finally on the ball, whilst significant news happened around them, with the loss of The Project just last Friday being the most significant.

We open tonight's news (the first night back as 10 News since September 2013), with a live cross from Morwell concerning a significant trial (cannot say more), and stories on the discovery of the Josh Bishop remains over the weekend, a follow up on the Yea farm incident from last week, a lawsuit with St Kevins School, and a Victorian tiff with Queensland's treasurer concerning GST (a piece that will have significant impacts on the Brisbane result due to it's non-availability to Josh Adsett to insert into the QLD 5pm news bulletin: which will be shown in the final results for Game 1).

Although, Melbourne graphics people have no idea who David Janetski actually is, and stuck a David... Crisafulli image on the intro shot with Jen instead.

To clear up the confusion. If your David's bald down the bottom, and hair up the top, he's the QLD premier: if your David is bald up top and hairy down the bottom, he's the QLD treasurer, If your David's bald all over, he's obviously Kochie.

A live cross from GCUH, mid way through the bulletin, while a fire at Carnegie and a car crash in Flemington get voiced over stories (with one number for the Ray Robinson count for each of the two voiced over stories).

Sport, is your typical Melbourne standard for a Monday night.

Overall, a great bulletin but will it get past Brisbane?

The scores:
Four local stories (inc. one that should have been shared with Brisbane)
Two live crosses.
Two voiced over stories
A sports clinic.
A Ray Robinson Number of 2.

The only number that matters in every fixture in this grand final series.

Melbourne scored tonight: 6.5/10.

The results for the first game of the 2025 Grand Final prior to the penalty Brisbane is paying were:
Brisbane: 7/10
Melbourne: 6.5/10
.

The penalty for the non-use of the Melbourne-produced story in Brisbane (despite 10 having local crews at the event to get words from Janetski) is a deduction of .3 of a point off tonight's score.

The official result of the 2025 Grand Final's first game...

Brisbane 6.7/10.
Melbourne: 6.5/10.

Brisbane... has won the first game of the Grand Final despite it's issues, and is up 1-0.

The next fixture, will happen on Wednesday night: the only time this season there will be a Wednesday survey... and the first time ever two cities will be surveyed on the same night on a Wednesday night.

Melbourne, will have the advantage on Wednesday night, Join us then.
