Content Survey Live: Yesterday's Hero: Four Quarter Blitz: Quarter 2.

The halftime hooter is about to sound for finals week...

Welcome to the second part of the Qualifying Final for Content Survey Live for 2025.

Last night, Adelaide got their foot forward for the first part of this final, scoring a 6.65/10.

Tonight, will the champions of 2023, Melbourne be knocked out of the race, or will they take that giant step forward... towards another survey at week's end and perhaps, the grand final?

Now for the ground rules.

Our focus, in Content Survey Live will be monitoring Ten’s five capital city news services (a benefit of technological change, now allowing us to watch interstate bulletins on delay), using the same criteria we used in the “Great Local News Study” from Kuttsy's Pitch XI in August, 2019.

-Locally sourced stories: that is stories reported by local journos. Really big local market stories with national impacts, also fit here. Voiced over local stories are counted separately.

-Live crosses: stuff that is used to embellish a story.

-(NEW in 2025) Local overnight news: Handled via a system we call collectively, the “Ray Robinson Number”: 1pt for V/O’d overnight news, 2pts for a full story, the total is reported at each survey’s end.

-Weather is not counted.

-Sport is not counted if it’s done by obviously freelance journos, or voiced over pieces: you gotta have dedicated reporters there, with their mug on air reporting a sports story for it to count.

-(NEW in 2025) The “Hometown Rule” now applies to both Monday and Thursday night in the regular season as well as in the three Four Quarter Blitz finals (where the highest ranked participant goes first) outside of the Grand Final.

- (NEW in 2025) No 2nd survey (i.e. Tuesday/Friday) can be posted until 12hrs have elapsed after the live survey (Monday/Thursday) in the main season and the three Four Quarter Blitz finals outside the Grand Final. It can be worked on however, and scheduled.

We begin tonight's bulletin with a near 6min wait for a local story (with Gulf problems leading the first two places), a live cross outside Ampol South Melbourne, again talking about the potential petrol impacts of a Gulf crisis: Adelaide's cross of this vein was far better than the cut/paste insert from the NRMA. What: there wasn't anyone available at the RACV this afternoon?

The meat is significant: a overnight Yea farm attack (two points for the Ray Robinson Number), a trial culminating concerning a teen in a car crash (the Victorians are about to sentence theirs), a preview of the NFL at the MCG, as Vic tourism numbers look dire (i.e. spend a million bucks plugging a kiosk at the end of a pier, that Working Dog can do for free!) and a pair of flaming ramraids in suburbia overnight: one was successful, the other left the gas can there to see (two points for the Ray Robinson Number).

Just three voiced over pieces tonight, a hoon blitz in Cragieburn. a Cranbourne police raid, and AC-DC coming back to the MCG later this year.

In addition, Melbourne got a live cross from Childers.

Sport tonight was on par with Adelaide, only with more of a Carlton focus.

Overall, Melbourne tonight has brought it's game into focus.

The scores:
Four local stories.
Two live crosses.
Three voiced over pieces.
A sports segment on par with Adelaide.
A Ray Robinson Number of 4.

The only number for Melbourne that matters tonight, is coming up.

Tonight, Melbourne scored: 6.7/10.

The fixture for the Qualifying Final of the Four Quarter Blitz goes like this.

Adelaide 6.65/10
Melbourne 6.7/10.

For the first time since 2023 (the semi-finals), Melbourne has defeated Adelaide in this game: with the season ending for last year's defending champions, just one fixture shy of a grand final appearance.

This means, Thursday's preliminary final, is a rematch from 2023's grand final, and a rematch from Round 4's second fixture... albeit this time, with the advantage going to Perth.

Well, that's it for the first half of the Four Quarter Blitz.
Join us again on Thursday night: when Perth meet Melbourne in the Preliminary Final, the prize, being a grand final opportunity against Brisbane next week.
